Leak Diagnostics & Repairs
We all love it when things work the way they're supposed to, especially our water features! But over time, even a well-built pond, waterfall, or fountain can experience unexpected water loss.
Overview
While some water loss is perfectly normal due to evaporation and splashing, excessive water loss could indicate a leak. But don't worry, leaks happen, and fortunately, many can be successfully repaired.
01Finding the source
Our leak diagnostic process
Finding the source of a leak is often the biggest challenge. Water can escape for a variety of reasons, including shifting rocks, settling soil, damaged liners, plumbing issues, or water being diverted outside the intended flow of the feature.
At Good Earth Water Gardens, we have years of experience troubleshooting and repairing all types of water features. Our leak diagnostic process is designed to help identify the source of water loss, determine the extent of the problem, and recommend the most practical repair solution.
While not every leak can be easily located or repaired, our goal is to help you make an informed decision about the best way to get your water feature running properly again.

02Repairs
Common Water Feature Repairs
No one really wants to think about water feature repairs. But eventually, every feature will develop some sort of hiccup. Perhaps it's a leak, a malfunctioning pump, or an issue with water quality. You might see reduced waterfall flow, or not see it because the lights aren't working. At Good Earth Water Gardens, we've seen it all. And we want you to learn from our experience.
- Not running at all. check the power supply, breaker and connections. Extension cords drop the voltage and can burn out the motor.
- Runs only some of the time. the water may be too low; pumps shut off when they are not submerged.
- Pushes very little water. debris in the plumbing; disconnect, drain and rinse it.
- Hums but barely moves water. something is caught in the impeller.
03Renovations
Waterfall, Fountain, & Pond Renovations
If your water feature isn't the best it can be, we can help. Good Earth Water Gardens designs, maintains, and renovates ponds, pondless waterfalls, and fountains all around the Kansas City area.
We have rebuilt a 25-year-old pond around its koi, turned a faux waterfall into a real rock one and brought a memorial pond at the International Forest of Friendship in Atchison back to life in time for a special event.

“We have 2 water features that were installed years ago by another company that has since gone out of business. Both had developed a leak that we could not find ourselves. Dan from Good Earth was extremely contentious in investigating the source of the leaks. One in particular was very difficult to find, but Dan persisted until the leaks were found. Solving the pesky leaks entails a rebuild of a portion of our stream leading to the waterfall. Everything was rebuilt beautifully. Dan was in constant communication with me via text and phone calls, making sure I was kept informed on all phases of the repair. We also use them to clean our ponds in the spring and net them in the fall and they always do a fantastic job. I highly recommend Good Earth for your water feature needs.”
Frequently asked
Questions we hear
Something else on your mind? Call or text (816) 720-7577.
Visit Our FAQ PageWhy is my water level dropping?
It may not be a leak. Evaporation, splashing outside the liner and thirsty plants all lower the water. Low edges where the ground has settled are a common cause. If you rule those out, turn off the pump, mark the level and wait 24 hours: if it holds, the leak is in the stream or waterfall; if it keeps dropping, it stops at the depth of the leak. Or call us and we will run the tests.
Can you repair a pond or waterfall another company built?
Yes. Many of our repair calls are for features other companies installed. We have found leaks other people could not, rebuilt sections of stream and corrected waterfalls that were built wrong.
Why isn't my pump working?
The most common causes are power (a tripped breaker, a bad connection or an extension cord), low water (pumps shut off when they are not submerged), debris in the plumbing, or something caught in the impeller. If those checks do not solve it, call us.
What are my options when my pond needs to be renovated?
Each project is different. As a first step, collect images of what you like and what you want the renovated pond to look like, then talk to pond professionals. We will look at what is working, what is not and how you want to use the space, and give you options from targeted repairs to a full rebuild.
